We will examine the concept of interactivity by explaining the definition of four different authors and
relate it to the exhibitions at the museums “Storm P. Museet” and “Arbejdermuseet” by making
think-aloud tests and semi-structured interviews. Furthermore we will look at the experience
economy in relation to the selected museums. The museums are affected to some degree by the
experience economy, “Storm P. Museet” more so than “Arbejdermuseet”, due to the structure of
their 4 year reports and yearly reports. The museums have only one element of interactivity each,
according to the definition made by Asmussen (2012), which we choose to focus on. The
informants mention two aspects of interactivity, the physical aspect, and the aspect of being active;
none of which falls under the definition made by Asmussen. His definition is very narrow, which is
why we come to the conclusion that it would benefit to review it, in relation to Caultons theory on
hands-on exhibitions. If this was the case, playing in authentic environments, like the childrens
department in “Arbejdermuseet”, is interactivity.

Motivation for information

Studenteropgave: Speciale

This thesis addresses the inuence of cognitive motivation on information seeking. In information science, motivation to seek information is often explained with reference to an information need. Savolainen (2012c) argues that adapting
theories from the psychology eld of cognitive motivation could expand on this understanding of information seeking. A central part of the information seeking process revolves around source choice. Taking a theoretical starting point in expectancy-value theory, this thesis carries out an empirical investigation of the source choice behaviour in connection to work-related information seeking by seven consultants working in four Danish municipalities. The objectives of the study are to empirically verify Savolainen's application of a cognitive motivational theory in an information seeking context, to propose a way of operationalizing expectancy value theory, and to establish if this motivational approach can expand on the existing understanding of information seeking. The analysis is based on logbook data about the participants' work-related information seeking and semi-structured interviews which elaborates on the participants' motivation regarding a sample of the recorded work tasks. These work tasks are categorised according to six motivational factors related to expectancy and value. The analysis concludes that work task motivation inuences source use in various ways, for example, the number of sources used and the preference for interpersonal and internal sources increases when the task has high value motivation or low expectancy motivation or both. Furthermore the data are analysed according to Byström's concept of complexity to investigate if the two approaches overlap. It is found that motivation expands the understanding of task related information seeking proposed by the concept of complexity. Based on the analysis, the thesis argues that expectancy-value theory is a valid and interesting starting point for studying information seeking behaviour.

This master thesis evaluates open access policies of Danish universities and their effect on open access. These mainly request or recommend green open access. To investigate this, a publication analysis was performed by collecting data from the universities own institutional repositories, and further supported by interviews with key stakeholders in the Danish open access community. It was not possible to observe a general effect of the policies. The various policies are found to be vague both in formulation and practical application, which among others may act as barriers to implementing and improving open access to Danish research.

Det selvbetjente hovedbibliotek - Fremtidens biblioteksløsning

This master’s thesis is about a new phenomenon in the Danish library development: self-service central libraries with extended hours and one day a week without staff. The self-service central libraries are made possible because of the development in self-ser-vice technology for libraries. The first Danish self-service central library opened in 2011 in Faxe.
The self-service central libraries are based on the success with sub-branch libraries which used self-service as a solution – a solution used in Denmark since 2007 that was given positive reviews by the users. Both types of self-service libraries solve two prob-lems in the Danish municipalities. First of all, despite budget cuts in the library sector, the municipalities are able to offer citizens an attractive library system and second, the self-service libraries give the users what they ask for – more flexible opening hours.
In an attempt to further examine and understand the new self-service central libraries, this thesis examines the following three questions. First, what characterizes the munici-palities and regions that the self-service central libraries are part of? Next, in the mu-nicipalities with the self-service central libraries, which opinions of culture and libraries underlie the municipal choice of this type of library? And finally, are the self-service central libraries a useful equivalent to the ’usual’ type of library both now and in the future?
The three questions are answered by looking at two cases from Jammerbugt and Langeland municipalities; two of the Danish municipalities that have chosen to have a self-service central library with a weekly day without staff. Furthermore, interviews with the managers of the libraries and the chairmen of the cultural committees in the two municipalities were conducted.
The thesis reaches the conclusion that self-service central libraries appear to be a solu-tion in the Danish library sector that has come to stay. Also, it was found that this type of library is a modern and up-to-date solution that does not have an influence on the libraries’ ability to fulfill their social tasks.

The digitization of the public sector in Denmark, means that the citizens in the future have to get used to communicate with the public sector in a new and different way. It also means that the public digital solutions have to be able to communicate to a lot of different type of users. It is essential for a successful digitization of the public sector that the webpage Borger.dk will manage to communicate to all its different users. The study investigates how the sender's intentions are reflected in the visual communication on Borger.dk, and which visual strengths and weaknesses compared to the sender's intentions can be identified on the webpage. And last, how the visual communication on Borger.dk meets the requirements of users with different IT skills. The analysis of the visual communication on Borger.dk was made based on the theory of Lisbeth Thorlacius visual communication model. The senders intentions have been analyzed on the basis of different public digitization strategies. The analysis shows that there are a number of contradictions embedded in the sender's intentions, and Borger.dks function as the overall public webpage. It is concluded that the sender's intentions for the webpage Borger.dk is achieved by balancing between the embedded contradictions. The sender achieves to appear both friendly and as an authority by combining formal and informal visual elements on the webpage. Borger.dk manages to communicate to many different type of users by using a visual design and layout that will appeal to the overall common taste. However this will automatically distance the type of users who does not share this taste or who cannot see themselves as a part of the group ”the middleclass Danes” that is shown in information movies on the webpage. If Borger.dks frontpage was made simpler and did not appear with so many information this would overall meet both the experienced and non-experienced web-users.

In this paper I will try to find out what motives or demotivates reading for kids and teenagers. Studies show that boys read less fiction than girls and through an interview, statistics and different theories I will try to establish what causes this difference between the sexes. I will also examine how this lack of interest in fiction can affect boys when they grow up. Boys not having much interest in reading fiction is not a new problem. It has been known for years and though several attempts have been made to change this, none has worked permanently so far. Growing up in a house with books and parents who read aloud motivates kids to read, and for boys male role models who read are essential for their motivation. A lack of these male role models in addition to the boys' generally negative attitude towards reading and reading being seen as something only nerds and/or girls do demotivates the boys from reading. When boys do find something they are interested in reading, such as horror or action, they are being held back and told that that kind of literature is "bad literature" by the many female authority figures. This problem concerning boys lacking interest in reading is very serious, as it is possibly a part of why women are better educated than men, and this is an issue that concerns the entire society.

Opgaven er et replika studie af Lisa M. Given og Gloria J. Leckies tekst ‘‘Sweeping’’ the library: Mapping the social activity space of the public library fra år 2003.

This paper is about how it is to be young in these days. Today young people are more independent and have more responsibility for their own lives. They have to make their own choices and therefore also in charge if they don’t live up to their own and others’ expectations. This also means that young people tend to have low self-esteem because they have a higher risk to disappoint.
Therefore they need a place where they can escape into another world. This happens, for example, in the Twilight Saga, where they have the opportunity to be in another universe for a while. This is the young people’s utopia, and it is a place where they have a lot of good experiences, which causes them to forget about the pressure.

Musikindustriens udfordringer i en digitaliseret tidsalder : Bachelorprojekt 2013

This project takes a look into the current situation of the music industry and gives a possible insight into its future, based on these findings. This particular industry is said to have been in decline for years, as physical record sales have gone down, but a turn for the better might be on the way in the very near future, now that the industry is catching up on the web market it failed to secure more almost fifteen years ago. With the emergence of legal digital alternatives to illegal file sharing, the internet is slowly becoming a template of profit for artists. Legal streaming sites provide services that are convenient for the user, and certain studies have already shown that people have started migrating from peer to peer sharing to legal streaming services such as Netflix (for movies and television series) and Spotify (for music). As more and more people join – and pay for - these services, more money will go toward the artists. But as of now the discussion is going back and forth between artists, music labels and music fans, while the studies I’ve encountered give different answers to the same question. I conclude that the nearest future will see a revenue growth for artists on Spotify. The income values people have been reporting, have risen in terms of money per streamed play. As Spotify launches in more countries, and more subscribers pay for Spotify Unlimited and Spotify Premium, I believe that the amount of money paid to the artists. The discussion of how much is a reasonable. This is my proposal. Unless Spotify goes bankrupt, which could be a possibility when we look at the losses they’ve reported so far.

The purpose of this thesis is to gather knowledge on how the four-space model from
Folkebibliotekerne i vidensamfundet (2010) is used by the library staff, the users and the nonusers of the library, and investigate which forces and weaknesses the four-space model has
when put to practical use. The investigation takes its starting point in different theoretical perspectives on the four spaces in the four-space model. The study is based on three focus group
interviews with library users, three focus group interviews with non-users and two workshops
with the library staff in the municipality of Vesthimmerland. By analyzing the response from
the participants we are able to investigate how the four-space model is perceived by the different groups. The main conclusions are that the participants are relating the four-space model
to the local context, that the generated ideas are placed primarily in the overlap of the rooms,
that the ideas are primarily related to the physical room, that the participants are raising subjects that are not directly related to the model, and that the performative room is creating the
most debate.
The generated ideas are providing a base for answering which strengths and weaknesses
the four-space model has when put to practical use. The investigation has shown that the fourspace model has a number of weaknesses due to its lack of ideas when presented alone. Another weakness of the model is that it forces the participants to think inside the four rooms
possibly leaving out other ideas. In spite of the weaknesses the overall evaluation is that the
four-space model is a good setting for debating the development of the public libraries. Furthermore it is concluded that the four-space model can be taken out of context, and that the
four-space model can be used on a smaller library.

Abstract
This paper examines the passage from the traditional concept of the museum to the beginnings of the era of the digitised ‘Post-Museum’ or ‘digital heritage repository’. The evolution in the institutions is compared with the development of museum informatics and the rapid growth of digital cultural heritage. The new intersecting roles of museums, libraries and archives in the digital age are analysed, and the challenges posed by the advance in data sharing technologies are investigated, with a particular view to the needs of an academic audience, but also touching on the interests of the general public. Important aspects of digitisation, such as preservation of data, standardisation of metadata and copyright issues, are discussed. Two case studies of museums utilising new technology are used to pinpoint the difference between the qualities of access to the information, and an additional case study of a data aggregator is used to illustrate the new possibilities of the digitised era. Finally, three case studies of academic use of diverse data are used to examine the needs of academics, and how they are navigating the new landscape of information. It is concluded that it is important to safeguard and continually develop our digital cultural heritage, and that the data, information and knowledge in various databases and their organisations should be linked and shared in order to serve the public’s demands in a world that is characterised by extremely rapid developments. Terms such as “open-source’’, “creative commons”, “fair use” and “copyleft” are to be discussed in future works on the way to overcoming the obstacles of copyright and other privacy restrictions.

Reviewing is a job like any other in the new paper business, but holds a great cultural value to the regular reader. The men and women have the job of writing a subjective, yet objective, opinion on a movie that has yet to be shown in theaters, and by doing so, cause their readers to watch said movies. As such, they hold great responsibility, not only to the movies, they review, but to the readers, all of which trust their review and their authority to review.
However, how exactly is a review made with the greatest possible success, both to the reviewer, the reader and the movie? Obviously, the reviewer needs time and practice, especially as they are often only shown the movie once, and has very little time to do their review, and even less space to put it on. They need to be loyal towards the movie and the imagery, but also to the readers that wants these opinions to read. They need to consider the cons and pros of the movie, but write them fluently and in a way, that the reader might find entertaining. And before all this, they need to make the decision on, which movies to review and which to ignore, both based on the interest of their readers and in a way, their own opinion of the movie. If a movie is reviewed, it is a hidden stamp of quality in and of itself, as the review will give the movie attention from the readers, whether the review is in the positives or the negatives.
As such, reviewers balance on the edge of knife, and not all of them do as well in this act as others.

The purpose of this thesis is to determine how social and relational practices can constitute the concept of communicative situations. The fundamental definition of communication proposed by Just & Burø (2010) provides the basis for examining communication as dependent on social cooperation.
To establish an example of the communicative, social sets of action that may exist within the confines of dialogue, the theory on Facework by Goffman (2005) is presented.
The idea of particular sets of action and codes of practice develops the framework for the further description of Cody & Dunn’s theory of Accounts. These tools of language can be present in situations based on mutual maintenance of positive face.
The concept of dialogue by Bakhtin (1979) operates within a framework that corresponds closely with the idea of a communicative situation that relies on relational practices. Along with Wittgenstein’s (1997) theory of Language-game, this thesis will examine whether it is possible to construct a complete set of communicative rules. This will be done based on the presented theories, with emphasis on the perception of language and communication as seen by Wittgenstein.

This thesis deals with the possibilities and effectiveness of gamebased-learning, generally and it's use and perception in the Danish public schools. The thesis asks if it is possibly to impart formal learning through either free play and/or gaming. Furthermore it seeks to ascertain the outcome of current studies of gamebased-learning and its effects, and how the motivational factor plays in here. It finds that play, being a free and unforced form of activity, does not lend itself well to a formal form of learning in a structured setting. Games however can be used effectively, due to the more systemic and non-subjective nature of what makes a game a game, coupled with the possibility of a precise feedback system. It finds that this is reflected in studies that indicate increased self-efficacy, better retention and overall learning, the motivational factor however is missing and does not affect learning outcome.
Through a survey study this paper finds that the use of games in the Danish public school is widespread with 92,53% of the 415 public school teacher respondents, having used some form of game in their class. With levels from 20 to 40% of respondents using games either weekly or monthly, dependant on the game form. It can be seen that the continued use of gamebased-learning in the public schools is a reality for a sizeable portion of Danish teachers. The survey study also found that the teachers were positively inclined towards games and other interactive media use, and it's role in education in the future, with pure entertainment games scoring somewhat lower. Although offset by a general dissatisfaction with the current crop of learning games on the market today.

Volunteer-run libraries - librarian for pleasure or out of distress?
The purpose of this Master thesis is to study volunteer-run libraries in Denmark. Use of volunteers is becoming more and more common in the Danish public libraries, but the focus in this thesis is on volunteers who start their own library ie. community-led or volunteer-run libraries. The extent of volunteer-run libraries has not been studied before in a Danish context.

While the inclusion of volunteers in the public library is seen as community-involvment, user participation or empowerment of the citizens, volunteer-run libraries most often stem from closures and cuts in the local public library system. The thesis discusses if volunteer-run libraries lead to a lack of consistency in the public library service and which motives the volunteers have in volunteering as a librarian. This is studied through interviews with volunteers from two libraries and a study of the extent and numbers of volunteer-run libraries in Denmark.

The conclusion is that the volunteers are involved mainly because they are concerned about the local community, but at the same time only want to be involved as long as the work is uncoerced and enjoyable to a certain extent. The “serious leisure perspective” by Robert A. Stebbins is used to describe the motivation of the volunteers, along with the studies of Ulla Habermann on motives for voluntarism.
